Germany’s Patrick Helmes dedicates goal to his dead dog

Germany striker Patrick Helmes had revealed pre-match that he was hoping for a goal against England to dedicate to his dead dog - and he duly delivered. When Helmes took advantage of the Scott Carson/John Terry fiasco to find the net, his first reaction was to point to doggy heaven.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker had said: “My dog was just like a little baby to me. I wept all day long after she died. Now every time I score a goal I point my finger to the heavens and think about Emmy.
“She was just 17 months old, but she’d had kidney problems from birth. And three weeks ago she was in such pain I had to take her to be put down. I’ve now got the game against England coming up and this is a major event. If I can score a goal against them, that would be the greatest feeling in the world.”
The Sun has already used the excellent goalpoocher pun, so I guess we will opt for the infinitely more obscure German Pointer!
