BIG NEWS ALERT: Luiz Felipe Scolari sacked by Chelsea

Gene Hackman seeks alternative employment

Chelsea have sacked manager Big Phil Scolari with immediate effect. The Brazilian had only been in charge since June but has been dismissed after an indifferent run of results left the Blues fourth in the Premier League table.
Warning - the following statement from Chelsea FC contains artificial sweeteners: “The Chelsea board would like to place on record our gratitude for his time as manager. Felipe has brought many positives to the club since he joined and we all feel a sense of sadness that our relationship has ended so soon.
“Unfortunately the results and performances of the team appeared to be deteriorating at a key time in the season. In order to maintain a challenge for the trophies we are still competing for we felt the only option was to make the change now. The search for a new manager has already started and we hope to have someone in place as soon as possible.”
If he brought so “many positives” to the club then why has he been sacked after eight months in charge? And “Relationship ended so soon”? Have you sacked him or divorced him? Pull yourselves together, Chelsea.
Have to say that I am with Scolari on this one. Yes, they have been poor by their own standards of late but if you put faith in him as the man to do the job then you have to give him more than eight months to do it.
UPDATE FOR DANNO: This is equally true of Tony Adams at Portsmouth. He was only appointed in October and had seen two of his best players sold off in that time in the shape of Jermain Defoe and Lassana Diarra. If Liverpool hadn’t managed a superb comeback at the weekend Adams would probably still be in a job.

I love how Adams’ sacking isn’t even the biggest manager-out-of-job piece of news to hit the headlines today.
Doesn’t even warrant a mention on this website.
Danno,
Other commitments meant I couldn’t post about the Adams sacking before every man and his dog had, but I’m touched that you consider Off The Post an outlet for breaking football management news.
We’re more football humour and football reaction. For football humour, read the Chelsea statement above.
For my penny’s worth, you can apply the final paragraph above to Adams. In fact, I’ll update it for you to recognise this!
Rob - hilarious.
being a united fan I’m happy to see big phil go as long as Guus doesn’t take over. I’m scurred of Guus
From Guus’s agent: “Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich would not make too many friends in Russia if he steals away Guus from the national team.”
Wait, Roman has friends?
Rob Parker:
I love you. You’ve made my Tuesday night.
Thanks!
