Law and Order scriptwriters scour Russian football fraternity for character names

Abramovich, Pavlyuchenko and Arshavin in trouble with the cops

It seems a scriptwriter on US drama Law and Order decided the quickest way to name some Russian mobsters in the show was to throw in his favourite soccer stars safe in the knowledge that the unsuspecting average American would be none the wiser.

The only downside for me is the absence of Dimitri ‘Kingpin’ Kharine. Oh well, there’s always another episode!

I remember this because I was also flipping back and forth between L&O and Life On Mars that night, and LOM had a character named Voronin. Thought, man, this is weird.
