Former Premier League star Eyal Berkovic was yesterday found guilty of assault by an Israeli court after he admitted an attack on a youth football coach who substituted his son. The 36-year-old was seemingly unimpressed when Maccabi Herzliya coach Danny Etzioni took off his son Lior, then aged nine, early in a match in November 2007.
Berkovic, who once callously headbutted John Hartson’s boot, screamed: “I’ll screw you, I’ll see you are finished. I’ll come after you for the rest of your career.” And he admitted shortly after the incident: “Etzioni humiliated my son so I humiliated Etzioni.”
The ex-Israel international was sentenced to serve 100 hours’ community work and ordered to pay Etzioni £400 compensation.
