Belgian player has heart attack, sits up seconds later

Forewarned is forearmed

Belgian football nearly witnessed a tragedy this week when SV Roeselare’s Anthony Van Loo suffered a heart attack on the pitch. Thankfully, the 20-year-old was aware he had a heart condition and had been fitted with an implanted defibrillator.

The device automatically delivers a shock four seconds after the heart arrests. Van Loo’s legs suddenly move as the jolt kicks in. OTP reckons this must be a first on a football pitch.
