Coronation Street gets shifted for footie

ITV soap loses its Wednesday night primetime slot

If any indication of the power of football was needed, surely this is it. ITV bosses are moving long-running soap Coronation Street from its traditional Wednesday evening 7.30pm slot to ensure that they can bring you coverage of Steve Rider’s cardboard hairdo whenever they like.

Corrie fans have long moaned about ITV’s schedule being moved around when there is a football match on. But the beautiful game has won out and it is the soap, now in its 49th year, that has had to make way. The episode that would have gone out on Wednesday’s will now be shown on Thursday’s at 8.30pm instead.

In other words, Corrie can’t compete with the Champions League but is slightly more interesting than the Europa League!

    There’ll be complaints…

Does this mean that ITV have the Champions League on Wednesdays now, instead of Tuesday?

  2. Rob Parker says:

Not sure yet if that is the case, Fredorrarci , or whether it’s just to avoid clashes on the occasions when they do have Wednesday night football.

  3. Mike Connor says:

Can the monopolies commision not investigate about the amount of soap on ITV on a Thursday, since if you do not watch soap its tough cookies.
