Man who secured dream move or man on deathbed?
It is hardly a big secret that Xabi Alonso was desperate to join Real Madrid, but it seems his big move turned out to be a bit of an anti-climax. The ex-Liverpool midfielder could not even muster the trademark cheesy grin favoured by soon-to-be galacticos during the very public Real medical procedure.
Alonso seemed to believe he had been called in for a prostate examination. Even as the assembled photographers begged for a Cristiano Ronaldo-style thumbs up, Alonso couldn’t shift his face past its pensive setting.
