Top five bizarre Sol Campbell moments

1. The half-time walkout
Campbell’s decision to leave Highbury at half-time after being substituted during Arsenal’s defeat to West Ham in 2006 remains his most bizarre decision to date. Cue lots of murmurings about difficult periods and personal problems.
2. Joining Arsenal
OK, he is free to do whatever he wants to do but this decision hardly made life easy for himself. He picked up his fair share of silverware, but he could have done that at clubs which would not have had him marked as football’s biggest traitor of all time.
3. The paternity test
Campbell took claims that he was the father of the child of a woman he had a fling with as far as a DNA test back in 2006 before accepting that he was indeed the daddy and beginning maintenance payments.
4. Joining/leaving Notts County
It hardly seemed fair to list them separately. As you can see in the video above, Campbell was delighted to join the Magpies in a move that apparently sat very well with him. And yet 90 minutes of football and approximately £160,000 later he is ready to leave.
5. Claiming he was still aiming for the World Cup from League Two
“I would love to be in that World Cup squad for South Africa next year. Why not? It’s not as if I’m suddenly not going to be playing well. In the latter stages of my time at Portsmouth there were conversations with people around the England camp about bringing me back in and that was very nice to know.”
They should insert this in the dictionary underneath the word ‘delusion’.
