The best of the deadline day business

1. Tom Soares to Stoke (£1.5 million)

When this guy last played in the top-flight, the big clubs couldn’t wait to throw their money at him. He might have gone off the boil slightly, but he is only 22 and his talent is undoubted. A good piece of business for Stoke.

2. Fraizer Campbell to Spurs (loan)

A nice little proviso from Spurs to make sure they had adequate cover in the striking department. Campbell has looked sharp for United so far and should thrive away from the Old Trafford spotlight. Good work, Juande.

3. Robinho to Manchester City (£32.5 million)

Maybe shrewd isn’t quite the right word for this one, but the way City stole a march on Chelsea to sign the Brazilian was a brilliant piece of business. There are rumours that the Berbatov bid was a front to keep Abramovich and co. off the scent.

4. Vedran Corluka to Spurs (£8.5 million)

This was a real hot potato for Manchester City a few weeks ago, but it was sneaked through amid yesterday’s euphoria so a shrewd deal for both clubs.

5. Omar Garcia to Rotherham (free)

You don’t get too many free transferred Spaniards arriving at Millmoor, but Rotherham have snapped up former Athletic Bilbao player on a free transfer. And the club needs all the help it can get at the minute!
