Jose Mourinho says transfer speculation is based on his fantasy football team

The Special One first signed Jermaine Jenas last July

Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho says rumours linking him with a move for Tottenham’s Jermaine Jenas have only come about because he picked the England international in his fantasy football team. The Special One reckons journalists have scoured his fantasy picks to create transfer gossip.

He said: “Last July the Daily Telegraph started their fantasy football league and paid me to take part. In my squad I put Jenas and others. Six months later the market reopens and it comes out I like these players.

“I like them, otherwise I wouldn’t have put them in my squad, but that’s a transfer market without rules.”

Jenas was transferred from Mourinho’s fantasy team before Christmas after Spurs’ disappointing start to the season. But anyone looking for future speculation should note that his current team is:

GK: Pepe Reina
DF: Alvaro Arbeloa, Patrice Evra, William Gallas, Jose Bosingwa
MF: Denilson, Steven Gerrard, Ashley Young Young, Samir Nasri
FW: Dimitar Berbatov, Jermain Defoe
