Pelt the keeper
Take some snow, thousands of fans who have rarely seen snow, and one opposition goalkeeper, and you have got yourself a pretty humorous delay in play. Referee Cesar Muniz Fernandez had to halt proceedings in the match between Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao in the 5th minute after a barrage of snowballs were launched at Athletic keeper Gorka Iraizoz.
The referee said: “Before the start of the game, and when we were on the pitch, home fans behind the goal defended by Bilbao threw numerous snowballs towards the goal, some of them hitting the goalkeeper. In the fifth minute, I was forced to stop the game for a minute because of the continuous throwing of snowballs and had to ask officials to take the necessary measures.”
