You weren’t going to be using that ankle, were you?
This is Barcelona right-back Dani Alves’ near ankle-breaker on Toni Moral of Racing last weekend. Alves did get the ball first but he followed dangerously through onto Moral’s ankle. As well as ending Moral’s game, the incident coincided with Leo Messi preparing to join the action to win the match with his brace. Double-whammy.
Perhaps most disconcerting is the referee who takes it upon himself to demand a substitution from Racing before deciding he should probably get the player’s physio involved in the decision-making process. Either that or he is signalling for Messi to come on in which case, if it was my ankle that was possibly broken, I reckon I would like my medical treatment to be prioritised above a substitute being introduced.
