You hear so many football personalities pleading not to be banned from driving because of the effect it would have on their livelihood, so at least Mike Ashley had the decency to make Kevin Keegan’s position at Newcastle untenable at the same time as getting him banned from driving [Note to Mr Ashley’s lawyers – it’s a joke].
According to Keegan’s wife, “his head was in turmoil after a meeting at Newcastle United” when he was caught speeding on the A69 between Carlisle and Newcastle on 27 August last year. The ex-England manager was driving at 36mph in a 30mph zone. The offence pushed Keegan up to 12 points on his licence and a mandatory six-month ban.
“I would love it if Sir Alex Ferguson takes these 12 points,” Keegan didn’t say!
