Was Danny Welbeck sent to the reserves for Cantona celebration?

Fergie punishes cocky youngster with reserve match

Danny Welbeck has scored some pretty classy goals in his fledgling Manchester United career, including the one above against Derby County on Sunday, but apparently his celebrations have not been quite as impressive to Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 18-year-old was omitted from the squad for United’s midweek clash with Fulham and sent to play against Wigan Reserves instead. The Sun is reporting that Fergie was far from happy with Welbeck’s Cantona-esque celebration (see video above) against Derby. The youngster showed no emotion on his face but stood facing the fans with his arms back and his chest puffed out.

He proceeded to score two goals in a 5-4 win for the Reserves, but we don’t know how he celebrated them!

Can’t see anything ‘Cantona-esque’ about it at all. It’s not even close. He didn’t make it to the team because Rooney was back.

I love his celebrations. His first one which I like to think of a goose impression was great.

Lazy journalism. Fergie himself has said that was an absolute nonsense story, and he dropped him because he needed playing time. Then again if you take your stories from The Sun this is bound to happen.
