Football video: Artur Boruc’s howler against Northern Ireland

Holy goalie humbled by bobble

Artur Boruc’s controversial approach to bridging the sectarian divide had led to him being highlighted as a target for violence while representing Poland in Northern Ireland. Instead he ended up a target for endless fun-poking after an error-strewn performance topped by this spectacular backpass blunder.

The Celtic keeper was shaky all match, but his costliest error was not taking a first touch for Michal Zewlakow’s backpass on the bumpy Windsor Park pitch. Cue hilarity.

The NI fans should be ashamed of themselves. They had the ordacity to moan when we (Scotland) bOO’d their national anthem and then a lot of them threaten Boruc with violence and death threats.

Intimidating players to the point where they fear for their lives is not how you win a fOOtball match, it’s just pathetic. No wonder ma mate from Belfast supports ROI.

What’s controversial, the fact that he blesses himself before each half or that he happens to play for Celtic?

I was thinking more along the lines of wearing a ‘God Bless The Pope’ t-shirt to an Old Firm game, as well as offences of taunting Rangers fans for which he has been fined by the SFA and/or cautioned by the police…
