And nobody is threatening to take us to court this time!
Despite the fact that this new England kit has been quite problematic for OTP, we still love it. Firstly, we posted a picture asking whether this was the new England kit (we had previously done this with another potential design). Unfortunately, the second one turned out to be the actual design.
We received an email from a well-known magazine publisher who owned the photograph threatening legal action, swiftly followed by another email from Umbro themselves. Anyway, that was Thursday and this is Monday. On Monday a picture of England’s new kit is nowhere near as controversial!
This is the best England kit in years, I reckon. The retro design is right up my street anyway, but – if you want to get all philosophical – I think it is also making a statement about the Fabio Capello era. It is plain, simple, no unnecessary baggage. There seems to be a very visible attempt to smarten up the England team (ruined by Rooney’s scruffy collar, of course) and mark a move away from the gloss and celebrity of the 2006 World Cup, for instance.
Are you going to buy the new England kit? Why not do it through this link and put a few pennies towards the upkeep of you favourite football blog?
