This is possibly one of the most exciting times for football betting. Not only is every single game significant as the Premier League season draws to close, but the Football League play-offs are under way as well.

A cheeky fiver on who is going to come up from League Two? A few quid on the Blue Square Premier play-off final being decided by penalties? Let’s take a look at some of the bets you can place ahead of this weekend.

A sending off in the Arsenal v Chelsea game. To be honest, I think this is a certainty. Both sets of players will be keen to impress after going out of Europe and amongst the Chelsea lot there will still probably be quite a bit of anger as well. Place £5 on this to win £11.50.

Manchester City to nick a 1- 0 victory at Old Trafford.
A few twists and turns in the title race shouldn’t be ruled out as yet and this could be one of them. I fancy Robinho to grab an unexpected victory for the blue side of Manchester. Place £5 on this to win £140.00.

Gabriel Agbonlahor to finish as the leading English scorer in the Premier League. The Aston Villa striker is only one behind current leader Steven Gerrard and if he finishes the season with a flourish, he could be a good outside bet for this one. Other options are Peter Crouch or Kevin Davies. Place £5 on this to win £67.50.

Burnley to win promotion to the Premier League. The play-off scenario suits Burnley in my opinion. They have proved hard to beat all season and fear absolutely no-one. I have said for a while that if they get into the top six (which they have) then they will win the Championship
play-offs. Place £5 on this to win £15.00.

Promotion Treble: Burnley, Leeds and Shrewsbury. This is an excellent bet. You can bet on the three teams to be promoted in the play-offs. I’m going for Burnley, Leeds and Shrewsbury at 39/1, but the choice is yours. Place £5 on this to win £195.00.

There we are then. A few ideas to get your football betting brains thinking ahead of what is an action packed weekend of matches.

There will be ups and downs for all of the teams concerned, but hopefully for all of you placing bets this weekend, the only ups and downs you will experience will be jumping for joy as Didier Drogba sees red at the Emirates stadium or as Gabriel Agbonlahor grabs a hat-trick against Fulham!

Did you make that Playoff bet before or after Bury won the first leg away at Shrewbury?
