The Daft Punt

There isn’t much in football that can be as exciting or as unpredictable as play-off final weekend. After a long season full of hard work, it all comes down to one game at Wembley to see who is going to win promotion from League Two, League One and the Championship.

No matter what happens, there will be three sets of supporters celebrating come the end of the Bank Holiday weekend. There will also be three groups of fans that will be rueing what might have been after watching their team miss out on promotion.

There is so much at stake this weekend and it means everything to the followers of Gillingham, Shrewsbury, Millwall, Scunthorpe, Burnley and Sheffield United. With that in mind, it wouldn’t hurt to have a cheeky football bet on their fortunes, would it?!

Burnley, Scunthorpe and Shrewsbury to win promotion
If you fancy your chances of predicting the three winners this weekend, why not stick a few quid on a play-off accumulator? Go with whatever your gut feeling is. You never know, it might be right one of these days! Place £5 on this to win £35.

Five or more goals in the Gillingham v Shrewsbury game
This one is going to be an entertaining game in my opinion. It has all the makings of a goal-fest. Both teams are on a massive high and will be going for the win. This, combined with nerves, could make both defences slightly vulnerable. Place £5 on this to win £45.85.

Millwall to be trailing at half-time, but to beat Scunthorpe to win promotion
As you probably know by now, I really like this bet. You are placing your money on there being an exciting twist in the game. As for why I fancy Millwall to turn it around against the odds, well, they showed against Leeds that they never give up and that they are a very united group of players. Place £5 on this to win £195.

Burnley to win on penalties against Sheffield United
I have thought for some time now that this season is destined to belong to Burnley. With a small squad, they have been fantastic and fully deserve every success that comes their way. As for the manner of victory, well they have played so many games this year that it is just bound to go to the wire. Place £5 on this to win £41.00.

There you have it – your Daft Punt play-off betting special. There is some Premier League games going on as well with ‘Survival Sunday’ being the phrase of the weekend. For what it’s worth, I think Newcastle and Middlesbrough are done for. Anyway, there is no shortage of games to bet on this weekend, so what are you waiting for?

As a Gills fan, I can see us winning 3-2, so the 2nd bet is a good nod. After all the two teams shared 11 goals in the two league games this season (even if 9 of them were the Shrews!). However, their 7-0 win was early in the season, and we are a changed team from then – taking into account our respective form in the run in I’d say we’re slight favourites (bookies seem to agree).
