When your club is throwing £80million here and £62million there on new players and breaking the world transfer record becomes an almost daily activity, it is easy for a player to get carried away.
Not so for Real Madrid defender Christoph Metzelder who seems genuinely disgusted at the way his club is conducted itself.
The German said: “I don’t know much about this evolution and I’m worried about it. Spending $96m on someone that can get injured or be in bad form isn’t correct to me, especially during this period of financial uncertainty.”
That’s not Real Madrid talk, Herr Metzelder. Although to be fair, Real’s disciplinary procedure for speaking out of turn probably includes a bonus of two weeks wages!
