Robbers lift shirts…

Now we have all heard about football players being robbed while playing, but this is something else. Normally the thieves in question target the unoccupied homes of Merseyside millionaires. But one team in Peru suffered at the hands of criminals who broke into their stadium. Universitario had 50 shirts and 90 pairs of football boots stolen from the dressing room of their Monumental stadium, which goes to show that having a big squad can have its downsides!

The club’s sporting director German Leguia moaned that they “had their pride stung” ahead of a fixture which could see them go top of their league if they beat San Martin. They might be up against it now as they’ll have to do it in just their shorts and socks!

We have heard of needing to tighten up your defence at home, but this takes the biscuit.
