Video: Zlatan Ibrahimovic slaps a Malta player

Take Zlat

Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic got away with a pretty petulant slap on a Malta defender during last night’s match. To be fair the defender was probably giving it a bit of verbal, mouthing off, pulling his shirt – you know, generally being a Malteser.

What do you mean?Im offended calling us Maltese rude people or whatever you meant by that.BTW,Ibrahimovic should have been sent off for that.Shame on the referee. That changed the game. And bOgdanovics incredible miss.

That was exactly the same thing Crouch did to some Andorran defender. It’s uncanny.

GB- I think it’s a pun. Either that, or really unclassy. But I’m pretty sure it’s a pun, i.e. “… you know, generally being a Mal-teaser.”

Oh ok lol.But lets see what Rob really meant by it.W8 for you Rob.

I think sometimes these lopsided games bring out ugly incidents. The smaller teams are trying every trick in the book to put the top players off their game. Guys like Ibrahimovic and RVN are probably pretty tired of getting their ankles hacked at this point so they react. I’ve been on both sides of this sort of match-up as a player and it’s not terribly enjoyable from either perspective.

Some teams having to pre-qualify for the group stages of WC qualifying might not be the worst idea. The fixture list is congested enough. Perhaps if qualifying wasn’t such an ordeal the world’s top players wouldn’t be gassed by the time the actual tournament came along.

It was indeed a chocolate-themed pun.
