Fantasy Football FAIL: OTP’s fantasy football with a twist

Calling all losers!

Do you suck at fantasy football? Always lurking around the lower reaches of your fantasy football league like some sort of fictional Newcastle United? OTP has got the answer: Fantasy Football FAIL.

This season we will be tipping the table on its head and celebrating mediocrity. And we will be doing from within the Premier League’s own fantasy football game. That’s sticking it to the man, folks.

In short, your mission is to pick the worst fantasy football team you can possibly muster. We want you to wheel and deal to find a rag-tag mob of error prone keepers, hopeless defenders and misfiring strikers that Gareth Southgate himself would be proud of.

The winner will be the side with the most minus points (Luton Town, you’re not allowed to enter). We’re not sure what the prize will be yet, but we will round up a bag of goodies of some description for our most glorious loser.

You can sign up here. The league code is 1238259-236763.

*We know you can get points deducted for making transfers, but all’s fair in love and war. You just have to get the lowest score you can.

    Brilliant idea, excellent 😀

11 transfers each week? Wish Scholes was still a regular, guaranteed minus points!

It’s a real nice idea, but I reckon you should can the idea of allowing loads of subs at -4 each. It takes skill and effort to pick a player who then goes onto score an own goal and get sent off.

Matt – no minus points for own goals, I think.

Well, I’m willing to take consensus here over the next few days. If people are willing to not make transfers then we will consider amending the rules of FFF to say no substitutions or you’ll get kicked out!

    Thoughts?

  • Rob Rowland

I think no subs personally. makes it much more fun! I agree with Rob Parker!

How about no EXCESS subs? you can use the free sub per week and the wildcard, but no transfers that will get you minus points, i.e. more than one per week.

  • Louwrens

the only way to score negative points is to get sent off. so it’s really just to see who gets the lowest score, and that can be quite easily done by simply picking third-choice keepers and players who are out on loan, etc, knowing they will get consistent zeros.

  • http://www.offthepost.info Rob Parker

Yellow cards, conceding goals and missing penalties also give minus points.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Usama-Waheed/899210433 Usama Waheed

What about Louwrens’s point? Picking a team that won’t ever get you any points so you remain at zero?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Matthew-Bailey/879740166 Matthew Bailey

You can get negative points for goalies and defenders for having more than two goals scored against you. Say your defender gets sent off then the team gets four scored past them, that would be -5 (-1 for every 2 goals, -3 for red card).

    For every penalty miss: -2
For every 2 goals conceded by your goalkeeper or defenders: -1
    For every yellow card: -1
For every red card (includes any yellow card points): -3

So, you’re looking for dirty players who won’t score (Kevin Davies would so nearly fit that bracket) or terrible defenders/keeper. Isn’t Bowyer back this season with Birmingham? Awesome! Don’t forget, you can only have three players from each team, so you still need to pick wisely.

  • Darryl

Surely getting 0 points for not playing is a huge problem, as stated above.

  • http://www.offthepost.info Rob Parker

Not really, Darryl. It’s just a gamble eg do you put in Ross Turnbull and hope he never gets a game or Brian Jensen and hope Burnley lose 3-0 every week. It might be the winner is someone with 0, but I’m hopeful someone will achieve minus points!

  • David Allison

Rob, you do realise Kevin Davies score more points than Torres and Rooney last season, whilst being the 7th highest scoring striker. To say he nearly fits the non-scoring/dirty bracket is a bit off the mark. Unless you’re trying to send people in the wrong direction in an attempt to steal the title… ;oP

  • David Allison

Yikes – I’ve just realised that was a comment from Matthew Bailey, not you Rob.

  • Darryl

Joined – will probably do better than my actual team.

Yes, yes. Davies = dirtiest player in the league. It just so happens he scores loads of goals too. So, my point being it’s not that easy. Another example – Nicky Butt. Gets quite a lot of points. Well, he did. Poor Nicky Butt.
