Coconut goes over the top

David Beckham was red-carded in LA Galaxy’s defeat to Seattle Sounders on Saturday. The ex-England captain was sent-off in the 17th minute for a studs up challenge on Peter Vagenas.

Becks overstretched after letting the ball out of his control. It was a bad tackle, just not as bad as the mute-me-now-please commentators make out.

In a quote that for some reason sounds like it has been through a translation site a few times, Beckham said: “Pete is one of my best friends. I think it’s a hard tackle but not with means for a red card.

“I’ve never gone in one tackle wanting to hurt someone. The referee saw it differently.”

Missed using the awesome sentence: Beckham put in a bad, hard tackle on Vagenas.
    Shame on you Rob.

    *Hangs head in shame*

    haha, a straight red booking

I didn’t think it was THAT bad a tackle… maybe the american’s know better than me though! It’s a poor tackle no doubt about it, but his eyes are always on the ball and he doesn’t catch the other boy that badly. Definitely a booking, though think a “red booking” is harsh!

It was nice to see all the other players on Vag’s team not doing the whole chest beating and pushing and shoving though!

Never gone into a tackle with intent to hurt someone? He had his eyes on his “Best friend ” the whole time. Remember that challenge against Wales’ Ben Thatcher?

Yellow. Poorly executed and risky but no more than many I saw in games throughout the weekend that went on without caution. Don’t like it when either team goes down to ten, especially that early. Yellow and a word of caution, especially for first offense so early in the game.
