Not the sort of first aid you want
ambulance-crash

Universidad de Chile striker Juan Manuel Olivera was having one of those days on Thursday. He was knocked unconscious during the game against O’Higgins after a clash with opposition goalkeeper Jorge Rivera.

The Uruguayan striker was taken to a nearby clinic and regained consciousness during the journey. Doctors were happy that Olivera had not sustained any lasting damage but ordered him to spend a night in a Santiago hospital under observation.

On its way to the hospital, Olivera’s ambulance was involved in a collision with another vehicle. Again the striker avoided serious injury, but he did have to wait for a further two hours while a replacement ambulance made its way through rush-hour traffic!

At least Olivera has been able to see the funny side. Team doctor Patrico Delgado said: “It was a tragicomic situation. He was a bit shocked at first but he has taken it all with a dose of humour. He will have to rest for around a week and after that he can start training again.”
