Video: Dean Ashton finds standing on bouncy mounds with your eyes closed doesn’t always save your career

All the best, Deano

West Ham striker Dean Ashton has announced his retirement from football at the age of 26. OTP sends its best wishes to Dean – a very good striker who is popular with neutrals and opposition fans simply because he always comes across as a genuine nice guy.

This video shows Dean battling his ankle injury back in 2007, which goes to show why he is probably sick to the back teeth of physiotherapy by now.

If things had worked out a bit differently he could have been a genuine contender to lead England’s line at next summer’s World Cup.

I’m saddened to hear this. Ashton did seem like a player of great potential. He was always the player in the back of my mind who I thought could be England’s next big striker. Oddly enough, he always seem to get injured just as he was hitting good form. Hopefully he’ll have better luck in whatever comes next!

All the best, but will never quite forgive him for his goal in that 1-1 home draw against West Ham. Cost Chelsea the title and Scolari his job, one of the drops that lead to the ocean.
