… at half-time
Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that centre-back Jonny Evans felt the super-turbo setting of his hairdryer setting after sitting in the wrong place at half-time. The Northern Ireland international had given a very shaky first-half display against AC Milan, but Fergie insists Evans was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Reports suggest the United boss was held back by assistant Mike Phelan as he screamed at Evans to ‘f***ing wake up’.
He said: “I was just giving him a gentle bit of advice!
“Our whole back four were going to get it, but he’s unfortunate he was the nearest defender to me. They had to compose themselves, that was the most important thing. After that, they settled and got very composed and got back to their normal game.”
So Mike Phelan’s job description involves sidestepping GBH charges as well as conducting BBC interviews. He must be Head of Acronyms.
