OTP sources report overhearing three very well-known Premier League players from a team currently battling relegation plotting their next career moves. The players, a goalkeeper and two midfielders all capped at international level, seemed unanimous in their plans to move abroad.
With a new 50 per cent tax now being placed on Britain’s top earners, the trio – holding court in a bar – made it clear that they would not be giving away half their salary for the right to play in the Championship. Germany, Italy and Spain were touted as their preferred destinations.
One player had already weighed up a previous wage offer from a Spanish club against the new tax laws.
