Bar staff change their names to Wayne Rooney

What’s in a name?

Workers at a pub in Manchester have had their name changed by deed poll to Wayne Rooney. There are now 10 Rooneys behind the bar at the Shakespeare Inn in Manchester city centre.

Landlord Chris Hilditch has ensured he continues to keep his staff in check though – he has changed his name to Fabio Capello.

The group received official confirmation of the name changes last Friday and will wear personalised t-shirts throughout the World Cup to ensure customers don’t get their name wrong.

Barmaid Wayne Rooney, formerly Katie Hyett, told the BBC: “I haven’t told them yet, it’s still a surprise. But my boyfriend is a bit shocked I’m now Wayne. He’s a Liverpool fan so he’s been sleeping on the sofa in protest.”

Perhaps the most unfortunate person in this tale is Andy Wilkinson, managing director of pub owner Clover Taverns, who is now called Sepp Blatter! He is rolling the idea out across his chain of pubs.

He said: “We have over 100 Wayne Rooneys working throughout the country for the whole of the World Cup and I’m glad to say that we have 10 Fabio Capellos keeping them in control.”

How very timely – the Manchester Salon are discussing the problems when you mix football and politics upstairs in the Shakespeare on Monday 07 June with Fabio Capello there to keep us all in order!
