Cristiano Ronaldo becomes father to a baby boy
While it is not unusual these days for a celebrity figure to go to Africa and return with a new child in tow, Cristiano Ronaldo has found a very roundabout way of accomplishing this. The Portugal star has announced via his official website that he became a father in June.
The mother is an unnamed American woman and Ronaldo is to have sole custody of his baby son. Ronaldo’s mother, Delores, and sisters Elma and Katia are finalising the paperwork ahead of the baby moving to Europe, and the three women will help to raise the child.
The announcement on Ronaldo’s website said: “It is with great joy and emotion that I inform I have recently become father to a baby boy. As agreed with the baby’s mother, who prefers to have her identity kept confidential, my son will be under my exclusive guardianship.
“No further information will be provided on this subject and I request everyone to fully respect my right to privacy (and that of the child) at least on issues as personal as these are.”
The news has inevitably sparked a flurry of speculation and gossip. Basic maths suggests that the baby was conceived in September 2009, shortly before Ronaldo’s spectacular start to the season at Real Madrid. Many of the papers have reeled off the names of the 25-year-old’s rumoured American conquests, such as Paris Hilton, Tina Powers, Niki Ghazian and Kim Kardashian.
The Daily Mail cheekily ponders whether this might be a “Ricky Martin-style” arrangement.
Father and son will be able to work on their tantrums together.
