Paul the psychic octopus finishes the World Cup with 100 per cent record

Eight out of eight for octopus

Paul the psychic octopus finished the World Cup with a correct prediction for each tentacle as Spain won the World Cup, just like he predicted they would.

In the now familiar routine, Paul ignored a mussel in a jar adorned with the Dutch flag and once again dined in a jar with the Spanish flag on it. And sure enough, Spain won the match.

Paul had already correctly predicted the results of the seven matches that Germany were involved in: five victories against Australia, Ghana, England, Argentina and Uruguay plus defeats to Serbia and Spain.

Using some very crude maths (which overlooks factors such as last night’s match going to extra time), The Sun reckons you could have got odds of 3000/1 if you had backed Paul all the way.

The Oberhausen aquarium where Paul lives now faces one of the summer’s biggest transfer sagas as all manner of businessmen and chefs attempt to prise him away in a big-money move.
