New Manchester United signing Bebe not fit enough for reserves

Fergie’s £7.4m blind signing must have had an easy pre-season

Bebe, the former Homeless World Cup player Sir Alex Ferguson signed on the basis of a recommendation from Carlos Queiroz, was deemed not fit enough to play for the reserve team this week.

The Portuguese player was left out of a 16-man squad to face Manchester City’s reserves this week by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The 20-year-old was also hauled out of a training match for being “off the pace”.

The news will cause a bit of a stir among Manchester United fans since Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he had no seen so much as a DVD of Bebe in action before opening his chequebook for the £7.4 million transfer.

Of particular concern is the fact that Bebe had supposedly taken part in a full pre-season with previous side Vitoria de Guimaraes, including seven friendly matches.

I’d rather he didn’t play because his fitness wasn’t up to United’s standards rather than his ability, fitness is something he will improve over the weeks much like Obertan last season.

Just look how much Ronaldo bulked up and improved his fitness at United, the difference between 3rd division Portuguese football and Premier League football is massive.
