Trapped Chilean miners watch national team play

And you thought watching England was a dark experience

Miners trapped underground for more than a month were given a treat of watching the Chile national team play on a makeshift TV. A fibre optic cable was passed down to the miners so that they could project the image onto the wall of the long-term underground home.

Former Chile player Franklin Lobos was on hand to provide commentary for the miners, while the players themselves wore t-shirts with messages of support for them.

But the men were no doubt soon eager to get back to their dark isolation as their team lost 2-1 to Ukraine in Kiev.
