Under-performing Toffees crash out
Stand-in Brentford goalkeeper Richard Lee was the star as Everton were dumped out of the Carling Cup. Lee put in an outstanding performance during the match and extra-time, before saving Jermaine Beckford’s penalty to secure victory for the Bees.
Everton took the lead on six minutes when Seamus Coleman slotted in, but Gary Alexander headed an equaliser.
Brentford found time to miss a penalty in normal time, before Beckford and Phil Jagielka missed their spot-kicks in the shootout to hand victory to the League One outfit.
