Blackburn star wants to take Toon bad boy to dinner

Ladies, if you have been wondering how to get a Premier League footballer to take you out to dinner, the answer – it would appear – is to punch them in the midriff.

That works for Morten Gamst Pedersen. Just days after being punched by Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton, the Blackburn man has revealed he would like a date with his assailant.

He said: “Joey and I have nothing unsettled. I’ll even invite him to dinner next time he is in Manchester. Let’s put this case to bed.”

On the first date? You hussy, Morten.

He continued: “Joey Barton is a fantastic football player, and that’s what we do. He has not achieved anything with this, and I don’t either by whining about it after the game.

“You saw what happened. I don’t need not say more. We crashed, or I went into him and I was just about to turn to say sorry, and he just lashed out a punch to my stomach.

“I was very surprised and lost my breath a bit. No big deal. It happened in the heat of battle, and it was over when the match was over.”

Meanwhile, Barton has accepted his three-game ban after being hit with a violent conduct charge over the incident.
