The gaffer’s still got it

Bolton manager Owen Coyle proved he has still got what it takes. He named himself in the Trotters team to face Northern Irish side Cliftonville in a friendly to officially open their new artificial pitch at Solitude.

The 44-year-old managed a cheeky chip from the edge of the penalty area to grab his side’s second goal in a 0-2 victory. Despite not playing for Bolton for 15 years, Coyle rolled back the years in a busy evening. He was also involved in the build-up to Ivan Klasnic’s opener and had another goal chalked off for offside.

He last 68 minutes before giving himself a well-deserved return to the dugout!

He’s be known to do this hasn’t he? I recall he played in a reserve match or something for Burnley.

I think it’s all good fun and also for team bonding, knowing your manager is one of the lads. Probably works well for Coyle since he seems like that kind of manager.
