Newly unretired midfielder makes impact on debut
After to coming out of retirement to become a marquee player for Hong Kong-based club South China, former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt was obviously feeling the pressure to step up to the entertainment benchmarks set by some of his rather more illustrious ex-youth team colleagues.
The fans had no such expectations, initially cheering every sideways pass from the ex-England international.
But the defensive midfielder showed he did have some creative spark, despite showing signs of rustiness after a spell out of the game. He fired in a free-kick from the edge of the box, although opponents Pegasus had hardly built the Great Wall of China in his way.
He also found time to miss a penalty as he watched his effort hit the bar. And he showed he had been getting a bit above his station when he put a scissor kick wide from the rebound.
