Colchester United’s weekend was a bit of a write-off – but thankfully their team bus wasn’t – after they spent a big chunk of the weekend on a coach.
The hardy League One outfit battled through the frozen conditions to make it to the West Country on Friday ahead of their clash with Bristol Rovers on Saturday. The journey should have taken three-and-a-half hours, but ended up taking more than seven hours.
And that was the short leg of the trip…
The game was then called off on Saturday morning. The Colchester players left Bristol at 11am, but was still not at its destination by the time the Football League Show rounded up the few games that had gone ahead late on Saturday night.
The coach eventually crawled into the Weston Homes Community Stadium at 1.30am on Sunday morning, some 14-and-a-half hours after leaving Bristol.
At one point the coach had been stranded on the motorway.
Boss John Ward was not feeling generous though – the players were in for training as usual this morning.
