Police officers held a 50,000-volt Taser stun gun to the chest of former Bolton star Michael Ricketts as they arrested him for allegedly headbutting and punching a woman at his birthday celebrations.
The 32-year-old, currently without a club, allegedly assaulted the woman after calling her a “f***ing c***” at a restaurant.
Ricketts allegedly stormed out of the restaurant, in Hale, Greater Manchester, followed by the woman – who is believed to be his partner – and then threw her against the car.
Two police officers witnessed the alleged incident from their patrol car and were forced to hold the Taser against Ricketts’ chest to calm him down.
The journeyman striker, whose clubs include Middlesbrough, Leeds United, Burnley, Oldham Athletic and Southend United, has not played since leaving Tranmere Rovers in January.
Ricketts was charged with common assault and will appear in court later this month.
