Arsene Wenger likes to keep all his staff on their toes, and that includes backroom staff as well as players. That is why he is taking Arsenal kitman Vic Akers out of his comfort zone with a move for Southampton youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Today’s gossip columns are linking Wenger with a move for the highly-rated Saints kid.
Not only is the 17-year-old a bit of a mouthful, he is also going to be a nightmare to fit on the back of a shirt with his 17 characters plus a hyphen especially given the Gunners’ contrasting sleeves.
OTP sincerely hopes that Akers doesn’t bottle it and just go for Chamberlain (the portion of his name he gets from former England international dad Mark). Indeed, if Oxlade-Chamberlain just doesn’t fit, then we would prefer to see a Brazilian-style nickname introduced.
Maybe the Ox. Or Oxhinho.
