The humble snood has been coming in for its fair share of stick over the last few weeks. Just today, Sir Alex Ferguson has announced that his Manchester United players are banned from donning neck-warmers while they represent his side. But many managers are not putting such stringent rules in place.
They might be causing a bit of stir, but these Johnny-come-lately Premier League snood wearers (or ‘Manchester City’ as they are more commonly known) are merely following in the footsteps of football fashion trailblazer Gianluca Pagliuca.
The Italian keeper was sporting dubious footballing neckwear while most of the Prem’s current crop were still at school. The trend was continued by fellow Italian goalie Gianluigi Buffon, who may or may not have stolen the idea shortly after the top-left photo was taken!
OTP is not aware of any footballers who took to the pitch wearing a snood, but we are happy to hear any other suggestions you might have as to who might be the Godfather of Snood.
In the meantime, here is Pagliuca proving that it is always prudent to dress as warmly as possible when playing football.
