Full-back threatens to quit Twitter, Stephen Fry style

Jose Enrique risked the wrath of manager Alan Pardew after alerting Tottenham that he would not be facing them in yesterday’s Premier League clash via his Twitter account.

The Spaniard had a tight hamstring and was unable to feature at White Hart Lane. But Pardew had hoped that he would be able to spring the menacing name of James Perch on the opposition when the team-sheet’s were published.

Unfortunately, Spurs and most of the UK media already knew Enrique was a doubt thanks to an update on his Twitter page.

He tweeted: “Sorry lads i have a test this morning and we decide is better dont play if no im in 100×100. Im so hungry because this game is nice to play … my hamstring is so stiff today.”

Pardew was understandably unimpressed and warned he would be implementing a new club policy after the incident.

He said: “I got a text message that the press knew. Did he tweet it, did he? It’s something as a club we need to look at. Players can’t be giving that sort of information out … we need to make it as a club policy that it has to stop.”

And after being asked if the defender would return for the Magpies’ next match against West Ham, Pardew joked: “I’ll check his tweet.”

But the joking stopped there. Whatever he had to say to Jose Enrique prompted the Twitter response: “And sorry i want to delete twetter just get me problems. I have some followers they speak after i say something on the papers.thanks.”

OTP’s favourite bit of this already pretty humorous tale is that it could have been a lot worse, judging by some of Jose Enrique’s tweets between the offending tweet and the quit threat.

He tweeted: “We dont know yet the formation but sure i dont play. Is my hamstring is so stiff today but next game i can play sure is just 2 or 3days.”

No doubt Pardew would have loved his formation doing the rounds too!
