Safety first

The Instituto AC Cordoba keeper inadvertently took a very cautious approach when taking this goal-kick. Normally an ‘anywhere will do’ approach is acceptable when clearing the ball from the penalty area. But you don’t really expect to concede a corner when the clearance in question is from a goal-kick!

This used to happen at our college games on the dreaded astroturf at Lancaster University as it was so exposed to the wind. The first half would be about camping as many men behind the ball and drilling low clearances up the field as far as possible. The second half would be about shooting from anywhere.
