Football goes all highbrow for a change
Now let’s face it, if you took the average footballer and put him on Question Time, it would be akin to giving a chimpanzee an abacus and asking him to do your tax return, although it would bring an often needed element of comedy to the show.
Thankfully, Clarke Carlisle is not your average footballer… in that he has a brain.
We all remember how he performed on Countdown last year, and if you weren’t a student or pensioner at the time, the footage is available on Youtube. So when programme producers decided to brodcast Thursday’s edition from Burnley, who better to ask.
Carlisle’s reaction to being asked was as follows:
“I don’t consider myself to be a politics buff by any stretch of the imagination, but with the economic crisis, having a young family and the recent election, my wife and I started to take a keener interest and I just hope I can give a layman’s perspective on things.”
Bless him, he doesn’t even understand the irony that that statement is more coherent than 98% of professional footballers!
Ok, lets get this out the way and leave it there:
Joey Barton – Shameless
Darren Bent – Would I Lie To You?
Luke Chadwick – Blind Date
Thomas Vermaelen – Casualty
Wayne Rooney – Deal or No Deal
John Terry – Footballers’ Wives
