Football Weekend in Numbers

Posted by - January 31, 2011 - Conclusions, Premier League, Statistics

Arsenal spot on, Spurs need a striker and an expensive window

4 – Number of years since Spurs last lost by four goals. Yesterday was the first time they have done so under Harry Redknapp

14 – Number of penalties awarded to Arsenal in all competitions this season

9 – Goals combined by Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane. Only six of these are league goals. A busy day for ‘Arry today?

2 – After just two rounds in which they have completed, there are just two Championship teams in the FA Cup. Five remained last season. Concentrating on the league?

11 – Lionel Messi scored more than one in a game for the eleventh time this season. It’s still January!

17 – Years since a non-league club reached the fifth round. Kidderminster Harriers in 1994

6 – Number of days Fernando Torres will have as a Chelsea player before facing Liverpool, if he completes his signing today

15 – Wins in a row by Barcelona, equalling a Spanish record

5 – Teams from outside the top division left in the FA Cup. The most at this stage since 1990

30 000 000 – Total spending by Premier League clubs in the January 2010 window, as advised by Deloitte. With one day to go, we are already over the £80 000 000 mark

Dont want to be picky but you state that last year there were 5 Championship sides still in the FA cup at this stage, and then follow by sayign that it’s the first time since 1990 that as many as 5 non top division teams made it to this stage. Maybe I’ve read it wrong.
