Fernando Torres appears to be on his way to Chelsea. Mirror Football’s Darren Lewis said on Twitter that an offer for the Spaniard had been accepted by Liverpool.
The overnight speculation – amid reports that Torres left the club’s Melwood training ground in tears yesterday evening after a meeting with Kenny Dalglish – was that the Reds were prepared to take Nicolas Anelka as a £10 million makeweight towards their £50 million valuation of Torres.
That would mean Chelsea only having to up their outlay by £5 million from the £35 million bid they had already made for the striker.
Torres is at Melwood this morning.
Meanwhile, Paul Konchesky’s Liverpool nightmare has temporarily come to an end. He has joined Nottingham Forest on loan.
