Random 1990s Footballer Tuesday: #2 Jakob Kjeldbjerg

Posted by - January 25, 2011 - Chelsea, Random 1990s

Name: Jakob Kjeldbjerg

In his 1990s prime for: Chelsea

Lowdown: In the years before Chelsea’s full foreign legion arrived, Danish defender Kjeldbjerg was one of the trailblazers. He arrived at Stamford Bridge in 1993 for £485,000 – a fee considerably lower than some of his illustrious successors. He was training to be a lawyer when he was cruelly plucked from his studies by Glenn Hoddle. The centre-back made an impressive start to life at Chelsea, albeit the highlight of his career was the 4-0 FA Cup final tonking by Manchester United in 1994. In 1995, he sustained a nasty shoulder dislocation playing against Millwall. That prompted a series of lay-offs, including a knee ligament injury which eventually forced him to retire from football in 1997 at the age of 28.

Now: He met his English wife, Christine, during his Chelsea days. Kjeldbjerg began picking up TV work almost immediately after hanging up his boots. His big crossover break has come as the host of reality TV show Robinson Ekspeditionen, which has seen him become Denmark’s answer to Ant and Dec.

You can see Jakob being a very scary host after the jump…
