Many viewers will have noticed that there was a female linesman for the Wolves v Liverpool game on Sky Sports yesterday lunchtime. Whilst this is not something that is necessarily the norm, I think it is fair to say that we are all at a stage of maturity where we can see that as nothing that has to be joked about.
Not Andy Gray or Richard Keys though. No sir-eee. The following is an extract of a conversation between the two before the game, allegedly at a time when they thoughts that their microphones were off:
Keys: “Somebody better get down there and explain offside to her.”
Gray: “Can you believe that? A female linesman. Women don’t know the offside rule.”
Keys: “Course they don’t. I can guarantee you there will be a big one today. Kenny (Liverpool manager Dalglish) will go potty. This isn’t the first time, is it? Didn’t we have one before?
Keys: “The game’s gone mad. Did you hear charming Karren Brady this morning complaining about sexism? Do me a favour, love.”
Thankfully Massey had a good game, including a crucial correct decision for Liverpool’s first goal.
The Daily Mail broke the story this morning, but it will be interesting to see the reaction from Sky. Grovelling apology, OTP suspects.
