Asamoah Gyan booked himself a relaxing little holiday for the Premier League’s winter break – before discovering it doesn’t have one. The Sunderland forward was all set to jet-off and checked with manager Steve Bruce when the break officially started only to be told the matches didn’t stop and he would actually be playing an increased number of games over the festive period.
As a compromise to his disappointed star, Bruce told Gyan he could skip this weekend’s FA Cup clash with Notts County to fly home to Ghana. But a Black Cats injury crisis means the holiday has been scrapped for a second time in case he is required for the match!
It’s all a far cry from life in Serie A.
