1. Sergio Aguero
Harry Redknapp has apparently launched a £38.5 million (€45 million) for the Atletico Madrid striker. While that triggers a release clause in his contract, the deal has hit a stumbling block over an additional £10-13 million tax fee due to the Spanish government on top of that. Pah, by the time you’ve paid that extra bit you could nearly afford Andy Carroll.
2. Andy Carroll
This has rumbled along in the background for a few weeks. It has never looked like a dead cert, but the rumours have refused to go away. If the Aguero deal does fall through, Redknapp could point his scattergun in the direction of Tyneside. Mike Ashley would achieve a double whammy of pocketing loads of cash AND upsetting every single Newcastle fan. Score.
3. Fernando Llorente
While Chelsea and Liverpool squabble over Fernando Torres, Spurs are apparently keen on Fernando Llorente Torres. The Athletic Bilbao striker is reportedly the subject of a £25 million bid from the north Londoners. You would expect the arrival of the 6ft 5in Lion King to spell the end of Peter Crouch’s current stint at Spurs.
4. Phil Neville
If you have ever looked at Tottenham’s free-flowing midfield and thought to yourself, ‘They’re just missing Phil Neville’ then you’re on the same wavelength as Redknapp. ‘Arry has reportedly been after the Everton skipper for a week or so. Whether the deal is attractive enough to either party to actually go through today is highly unlikely.
5. Shay Given
This would make more sense than spending £100 million on three striker and Phil Neville, which we suspect makes it very doubtful. Top-class benchwarmer meets Champions League team with goalkeeping liability. Why not?
Honourable mentions: Luis Fabiano, Alvaro Negredo and Diego Forlan have reportedly all been the subject of back-up bids to the Aguero deal!
