Video: Andy Gray puts a microphone down his trousers, gets sacked
The nail in Andy Gray’s sexist coffin
This is the video clip which finally did for Sky Sports pundit Andy Gray. Having initially survived the furore of the female linesman fiasco, Gray has now been sacked by the broadcaster after the stream of damning video evidence against him continued.
Yesterday we brought you more footage from before the Liverpool-Wolves match which saw reporter Andy Burton suspended. And suspending the transfer gimp during the transfer window is punishment indeed.
Gray had again survived, but a third video which appears to show him tucking a microphone down his trousers and showing it to Sky Sports host Charlotte Jackson then emerged. Sky Sports decided enough was enough.
Sky Sports’ managing director Barney Francis said: “Andy Gray’s contract has been terminated for unacceptable behaviour. After issuing a warning yesterday, we have no hesitation in taking this action after becoming aware of new information today.”
There is no excuse for Gray’s behaviour and the pattern that has emerged negates any suggestion that this was a one-off incident. But as we said yesterday, it is clear that there are people within Sky Sports who wanted Gray out and have achieved their ambition.
